Tripuraneni Gopichand was born on September 8, 1910 in Angaluru in Krishna district. He was a law graduate and worked as a lawyer before entering into films. He wrote the dialogues for 'Grihalaxmi' (1946) starring L.V. Prasad, Bhanumati, and CSR. He directed the movie 'Lakshmamma' (1950) within five weeks. This was the first film for Ghantasala as a music director. He was also the director of the movie 'Priyurali' (1952) which was debut film for actor Kongara Jaggaiah. He was the father of actor Sai Chand.
