H.M. Reddy

H. M. Reddy was born on June 12, 1892 in Karnataka. His full name was Hanumappa Muniappa Reddy. He started his career as a reflector boy in Bombay in 1924. Later he worked as assistant to Ardeshir Irani, creator of the first Indian talkie Alam Ara.

He produced successful telugu movies like Tenali Ramakrishna, Kalidas and GruhaLakshmi. He introduced lot of heroes like Chittor V. Nagaiah to telugu film industry. He was the producer of first telugu talkie movie 'Bhakta Prahlada' released on September 9, 1931 and first tamil talkie 'Kalidasu' released on October 1931. He was the director of the film 'Gharana Donga' in which L.V. Prasad acted. He was also the director of the film 'Vadhante Dabbu', which gave the break for N.T. Ramaro, Jamuna, and Allu Ramalingaiah. He passed away on January 14, 1960.
