Rakshita's father's name is B.C. Gowri Shankar who is a popular cinematographer in Kannada and mother's name is Mamatha Rao who is a Kannada actress. She was brought up in Bangalore. She joined the film industry after her father's death at her young age, to support her family.
Rakshita became famous after her Debutant Kannada film, Appu, which was a major success. Her first film in telugu is Idiot. Within a short period of time, Rakshita acted with major telugu
heros such as Nagarjuna and Ravi Teja. She married Kannada Director "Prem" on March 10th, 2007.
