Amrita Rao was born on June 17, 1981 in Chitrapur to a saraswat brahmin family. She speaks English, Hindi, Marathi & Konkani. She entered the world of modeling quite by chance, when she auditioned for an advertising film for Fairever Face Cream.
She made her cinematic debut in the 2002 Hindi film 'Ab Ke Baras', but gained recognition only after the success of her 2003 film 'Ishq Vishk'. She also acted in Hindi films like Masti, Main Hoon Na (starring Shah Rukh Khan), Deewaar (2004), Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi (2005), Shikhar (2005), Pyare Mohan (2006) and Vivah.
She is the heroine of the Mahesh Babu's next venture 'Athidhi'. Athidi is directed by Surender Reddy (Athanokkade director) and produced by Ramesh Babu (Mahesh Babu's elder brother). This film is to be released on Mahesh Babu's birthday i.e., August 9, 2007.
